Boeing STD Tooling Glossary
Definitions of key terms used in Boeing Standard (STD) tooling procurement, aerospace MRO, and the Jazari Aerospace catalogue. This reference is intended for MRO engineers, procurement teams, and airline maintenance managers.
STD (Standard Tooling)
Boeing Standard Tooling (STD) refers to a set of tools and equipment defined in Boeing's Standard Tooling documentation. Each item is assigned a unique STD number and a precise description. STD tools are required by Boeing's maintenance manuals for specific maintenance, inspection, and repair tasks on Boeing commercial aircraft.
STD Number
A unique alphanumeric identifier assigned to each Boeing Standard tooling item (e.g. STD-77, STD-1009). The STD number is the primary reference used by MRO organisations and airlines when ordering tooling. Jazari Aerospace's catalogue is indexed by STD number.
MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul)
MRO refers to all activities associated with maintaining, repairing, and overhauling commercial aircraft. MRO organisations are the primary customers for Boeing STD tooling, as they require specification-compliant tools to perform maintenance in accordance with Boeing's Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM).
AOG (Aircraft on Ground)
AOG is the highest urgency classification in aviation maintenance. It indicates that an aircraft is grounded and cannot operate until a specific part, tool, or repair is completed. AOG situations require immediate procurement response. Jazari Aerospace guarantees a response to AOG RFQs within 2 hours.
AS9100D
AS9100D is the internationally recognised quality management standard for the aerospace industry, based on ISO 9001 with additional requirements specific to aviation, space, and defence. Suppliers operating under AS9100D must demonstrate consistent quality processes for design, production, and delivery. Jazari Aerospace operates in full compliance with AS9100D.
RFQ (Request for Quote)
An RFQ is a formal request submitted to a supplier asking for pricing and availability for specific parts or tools. Jazari Aerospace accepts RFQs for any Boeing STD tooling item via the online form at jazariaerospace.com/rfq. Each RFQ should specify the STD number(s), quantity, aircraft platform, and urgency level.
AMM (Aircraft Maintenance Manual)
The Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) is a Boeing-issued document that specifies the procedures, tools, and materials required to maintain a specific aircraft type. The AMM references STD tooling by number, making it the primary source for determining which STD tools are required for a given maintenance task.
Boeing 737 Classic (737CL)
The Boeing 737 Classic refers to the third generation of the 737 family, comprising the 737-300, 737-400, and 737-500 variants. It entered service in 1984. Jazari Aerospace stocks STD tooling applicable to the 737 Classic platform.
Boeing 737 NG (Next Generation)
The Boeing 737 Next Generation (737NG) comprises the 737-600, 737-700, 737-800, and 737-900 variants. It is the most widely operated commercial jet in history. Jazari Aerospace stocks STD tooling applicable to the 737NG platform.
Boeing 737 MAX
The Boeing 737 MAX is the fourth generation of the 737 family, featuring CFM LEAP-1B engines and advanced aerodynamics. Jazari Aerospace stocks STD tooling applicable to the 737 MAX platform.
Boeing 787 Dreamliner
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a wide-body, long-range commercial jet featuring composite construction and advanced systems. It entered service in 2011. Jazari Aerospace stocks STD tooling applicable to the 787 platform.
Tooling Compliance
Tooling compliance in aerospace maintenance means using only the tools specified by the manufacturer in the relevant maintenance documentation. Using non-compliant or substitute tooling can invalidate maintenance records and create airworthiness issues. Boeing STD tooling must be sourced to the exact specification defined by the STD number.
P-8A Poseidon
The P-8A Poseidon is a maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft operated by the US Navy and allied air forces, based on the Boeing 737-800ERX airframe with 86% commonality with the 737 Next Generation. Because it shares the same platform as the commercial 737NG, the P-8A uses the same Boeing STD tooling for airframe maintenance tasks. Jazari Aerospace supplies STD tooling applicable to the 737NG platform, which covers P-8A maintenance requirements.
E-7A Wedgetail
The E-7A Wedgetail is an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft based on the Boeing 737-700 NG airframe, operated by the Royal Australian Air Force, UK Royal Air Force, Republic of Korea Air Force, Turkish Air Force, and the US Air Force (on order). It uses the same 737NG airframe and therefore the same Boeing STD tooling as the commercial 737NG.
KC-46A Pegasus
The KC-46A Pegasus is the US Air Force's primary aerial refuelling tanker, based on the Boeing 767-200ER airframe. It replaces the KC-135 Stratotanker and is also operated by Japan. Because it is derived from the 767 commercial platform, KC-46A maintenance organisations can source Boeing STD tooling from Jazari Aerospace's 767 catalogue.
VC-25 (Air Force One)
The VC-25A is the US Air Force designation for the two heavily modified Boeing 747-200B aircraft used as Air Force One, transporting the President of the United States. The VC-25B is the 747-8i-based replacement currently in development. Both are derived from the Boeing 747 commercial platform and share its STD tooling requirements.
E-4B Nightwatch
The E-4B Nightwatch, also known as the "Doomsday Plane", is a nuclear-hardened National Airborne Operations Center based on the Boeing 747-200. Four aircraft are operated by the US Air Force as survivable command posts for the President, Secretary of Defense, and Joint Chiefs of Staff. The E-4B shares the 747 commercial airframe and its associated STD tooling requirements.
C-32 (Air Force Two)
The C-32A and C-32B are US Air Force VIP transport aircraft based on the Boeing 757-200, used to transport the Vice President, Secretary of State, and other senior government officials. Because they are derived from the 757 commercial platform, they share the same Boeing STD tooling requirements.
C-40 Clipper / C-40B/C
The C-40A Clipper (US Navy) and C-40B/C (US Air Force) are military VIP and cargo transport aircraft based on the Boeing 737-700 Next Generation. They share the 737NG airframe and its Boeing STD tooling requirements. Jazari Aerospace supplies STD tooling applicable to the 737NG platform.
